The original Saloon Keys was an expansion bank for the “FL Keys” plugin, utilizing its dynamic and expressive capabilities for a realistic player piano sound. The piano itself was an old out-of-tune spinet piano with staples placed on all of the hammers. It was recorded on an old farm and cobbled together in a day. After posting the sample-set online, the name “Saloon Keys” was suggested by another forum member.
Time has passed, and that bank is no longer compatible with newer versions of FL Keys, so I decided to wrap up the samples inside a VST so I can use them again. Unfortunately, without the FL Keys plugin, some of that character has been lost.
Note: Saloon Keys is not a realistic virtual instrument. It’s not really a tool for composing piano parts, but rather for experimental producers looking to find new and interesting sounds. There is no round robin, no real dynamics to the samples other than their distinct character.
