Heavy Metal by supmarf is a new electric guitar VST plugin aimed at easily recreating the heavy thrash and nu metal rhythms of the 90s. Also, it is free.

There’s no shortage of guitars plugins out there which are recorded clean but required to be paired with an amp simulation for distortion and speaker emulation for your tone. These sample libraries will require you to find for free or buy extra plugins just to get a heavy enough sound. So, what makes “Heavy Metal” any different?
The guitar used to create Heavy Metal is a real guitar connected directly to a real ENGL tube preamp for a natural full distortion tone. Double tracking is also easy since every note (including sound effects) have been recorded and edited in stereo. Every note has also been recorded more than once and is using round robin sample playback which sounds more natural. Up strokes, down strokes, muted, open, power chord, single notes, scratches, scrapes, pinch harmonics and more. There are a LOT of samples being used here to really give this guitar plugin a natural sound.
When you first load the plugin the sound will be very raw, like running a distortion pedal direct to a mixer, this is because the samples were recorded without a speaker cabinet or speaker emulation. Cab emulation should be used along side Heavy Metal and will make a big difference in shaping the tone more to your liking. To keep it simple, the Speakerer plugin was created specifically for Heavy Metal to easily get a good tone in mere seconds.
